Program Overview and Background
A program originally designed to “Spark Hope, Ignite Optimism, and Create the Currents for a Brighter Future” primarily for African American males who had dropped out of high school due to academic, social, or behavior issues. The goal of the program is for these individuals to reenter high school and obtain their High School Diplomas; attend Adult Education and obtain their GED; or gain the skills to secure legal and gainful employment. With this grant we have been able to enter A. R. Rucker Middle School in Lancaster, SC with the goals and objectives to 1. enhance and expand the existing mentoring program to more fully align with evidence–based practice. 2. Improve academic achievement for targeted youth, and 3. Reduce problematic behaviors, juvenile offenses, and adjudications.

Our program services and goals are to: enhance and expand the existing mentoring program to more fully align with evidence–based practices, improve academic achievement for targeted youth, and reduce problematic behaviors, juvenile offenses, and adjudications. We do this through mentoring, decision Making, family engagement, life skills, and community engagement opportunities.
Target Population
Currently we are serving males within our local middle school that are in the 7th & 8th grade that have been identified by school administrators, counselors, and staff as individuals who could benefit from mentorship, decision making skills, and motivation to stay in school and on track to achieving their High School Diplomas.
