DownloadDescription of Resource: The Promoting Enhanced Resilience and Learning (PERL) training program is designed to help make mentor and mentee interactions more intentional by teaching mentors how to strengthen mentees’ growth mindset, goal-setting skills, and school engagement.
Goals: To increase mentor skills for effective goal-setting techniques, building positive attitudes toward school, and encouraging a growth mindset.
Target Population/Eligibility or Target Sites: Mentoring programs of all types. This training may be especially relevant for programs targeting academic outcomes.
Corresponding Elements of Effective Practice: Training, Supporting Mentoring Relationships (formerly “Monitoring and Support”)

Additional Information: For a supplemental resource, see PERL: Supporting School Success in Mentees, a free webinar that discusses three non-cognitive skills that mentors can support in their mentees to promote mentees’ resilience and learning. Also, the three key outcomes (or pillars) that PERL training hopes to foster (growth mindset, problem solving, and school engagement) are aligned with measures that can be found in the Measurement Guidance Toolkit.
