Description of Resource:

Based on the results from interviews with 50 mentoring program managers throughout California, this resource identifies and discusses common pitfalls that can negatively impact mentoring programs and recommended practices associated with developing, supporting and sustaining quality mentoring programs (e.g., sufficient staff, mission driven leadership, clear goals/objectives, ongoing mentoring training, etc.). This guide also includes exercises for programs to use to evaluate existing elements and elements to be further developed to move towards the recommended practices. Users should note that the title of resource refers to “Best Practices”, but that the practices discussed have not necessarily been studied and supported through research in the manner that is often associated with use of this term.

To help mentoring programs identify common challenges and potential beneficial practices associated with developing, supporting and sustaining high-quality mentoring programs.
