DownloadDescription of Resource: The Critical Mentoring Supplement to the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoringconsciousness and critical race theory. This resource offers recommendations to apply a critical framework to practices such as integrating youth- and community-centered approaches into program design, implementation, and evaluation. The Critical Mentoring Supplement draws from research that has shown positive associations between critical consciousness and positive youth outcomes in the areas of civic and community engagement, career development, occupational attainment, socioemotional thriving, and academic achievement and attainment.
The supplement includes resources and tools such as links to the Reimagining Youth Work podcast hosted by Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan, a Checklist of Keys to Developing Strong Critical Mentoring Models, and contact information for practitioners to connect with expert trainers in critical mentoring for additional support or coaching.
Goals: To provide mentoring programs with research- and practitioner-informed standards, recommendations, and resources to help develop and enhance services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally relevant.
