Description of Resource:

This is a guide for student mentors engaged in peer mentoring relationships with students on the autism spectrum. It reviews relevant information about autism, guidance about the role of a peer mentor, and tips for effectively supporting students on the autism spectrum to achieve academic and social goals. This resource may be used as a supplement to a mentor training or a match support reference for mentors.

 

Goals:

To enhance the quality of mentoring that is provided by student mentors to students on the autism spectrum.

 

Target Population/Eligibility of Target Sites:

Youth on the autism spectrum

Additional Information:

This guide was made possible by a grant from the Scottish Funding Council in 2009, which has supported not only this publication, but also a research project (led by Charlene Tait of the National Centre for Autism Studies, University of Strathclyde) about transition and retention for students on the autism spectrum, and the delivery of a series of workshops on this topic (jointly delivered by the University of Strathclyde and The National Autistic Society Scotland).
