Access ResourceDescription of Resource: Rural communities have their own unique set of strengths and challenges, especially when working with young people. Working with members and partners from rural areas, the Youth Collaboratory compiled resources that help address the needs of rural mentoring programs. This toolkit features concrete recommended practices and specific techniques that can be used to build a sustainable mentoring program within the context of rural communities. There are four modules within the resource: Drawing on the Strengths of Rural Communities; Messaging + Marketing; Partnerships + Collaboration; Resources.
Note: This resource should be used in combination with resources that provide more comprehensive and holistic guidance and tools for serving youth in rural communities. These include the Rural Community Health Kit, which can be found here.
Goals: To offer programs that work with rural youth populations key skills and strategies to meet the needs of their prospective communities while adhering to recommended practices.
