Happy Holidays from the NMRC!
We would like to thank our vibrant NMRC community for a great year, and wish you all a happy holiday season! This has been a year of rich discourse on key topics impacting our field, and lots of sharing of resources, tools and innovations. We’ve posted reviews on important topics to help us better support the youth we serve, from Mentoring for LGBTQI-GNC Youth to Youth with Mental Health Challenges, and much more. Mentoring practitioners across the nation have contributed to our Resources page, providing tools like the Mentoring Guide for Life Skills and The Wisdom of Age: A Handbook for Mentors for other programs to apply to their own work.
And we’re looking forward to another exciting year in 2017, where we’ll be adding to the resources and reviews on our site and exploring new topics of interest to mentoring programs. Look out for reviews of mentoring research on topics like cross-age peer mentoring, e-mentoring, mentoring for youth in foster care, and mentoring for youth with disabilities. We’ll also be examining the research on mentoring practices like recruiting male mentors, setting and working on mentee goals, and responding to and preventing bullying and victimization that young people in our programs may face. We’re also excited to add new measures to our Measurement Guidance Toolkit and release a number of tools that can help programs with monitoring, support, and eventual closure of matches.
Don’t forget to check out this blog for even more insights and innovations from your peers in the field, from research alerts to recommendations about unique program practices serving diverse youth. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from the NMRC!
